Police stated they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A senior political figure stated the attack made him stunned and required to be solved quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
